Date: July 14, 2007 Where: McAvoy Park Information to follow from your coach! The Rainbow games are held after the regular season ends. The Rainbow teams are made up of players from all the teams within a given division, (creating a rainbow of colors from different uniforms). There are no Rainbow Games for the Instruction (5 & 6 year old) Division. For the Junior Division (7 & 8 year olds), all 8 year olds are eligible to play, and the only requirement to play is making a commitment approximately two weeks prior to the games. There is NO selection criteria other than age. The Junior Division Rainbow Games are essentially graduation games. The number of players in the Junior Division typically result in four teams and two games. For the Minor (9 & 10 year olds), and Major (11 & 12 year olds), Divisions, the Rainbow teams are selected by all the players. No adults are involved in the selection process. All players are eligible, but players cannot vote for themselves. It is regarded as an honor to be voted onto a rainbow team and the players voting are encouraged to select the players that they feel will best represent the team. The voting is intended to be based on sportsmanship, team play, and attitude in addition to baseball skills. The rainbow teams are not intended to be all-star teams, and players with the best skills do not always receive the most votes. There are typically two teams and one game for Major Division, and four teams and two games for the Minor Division. An equal number of players are provided from each team. All the Rainbow Games are played at McAvoy Park. The players are introduced one at a time over a PA system, and the national anthem is played before every game. the Juniors games are first, followed by the Minors and Majors. The league provides pizza and soft drinks after each of the games for al the players and fans. This provides an excellent opportunity for the Juniors and Minors to get a glimpse of the division they will be in the following season.
