League Overview

The All Irondequoit Sports Association, (A.I.S.A.) is a baseball league for boys and girls who live in, or go to school in the Town of Irondequoit. Players enter the league at all different ages, with a widely varying levels of skills, knowledge and enthusiasm. With a few exceptions, advancement through the four divisions is based solely on age. There are no minimum requirements for advancement related to skills, experience or baseball knowledge. Girls and boys play on the same teams.

Players of all abilities are welcome, and encouraged to participate. The primary goal of the league for the players is to have fun and have a change to play organized baseball. We work hard to ensure that we provide the coaching and instruction that will allow each player to develop his or her skills and baseball knowledge to the extent possible and desired. We want our players to learn good sportsmanship and how to be a part of a team.

To be eligible, players must be at least 5 years old by October 1st during the season, and cannot turn 13 before October 1st during the season. The teams are grouped in four divisions by ages as follows:

Instructional           5  and    6 year olds

Juniors                   7  and    8 year olds

Minors                   9  and  10 year olds

Majors                 11  and  12 year olds

Girls Softball           9 through 13 year olds

Instructional Division:  all the players hit off a tee. There is no pitching. All the players from each team get up to bad in an inning, regardless of the number of outs. The entire team plays the field while the other team bats.

Junior Division:  a coach pitches underhand or overhand, depending on the ability of the batter. The players have the option of hitting off a tee after two swings at pitches. The entire team plays the field while the other teams bats, no players sit out.

Minor and Major Divisions:  the players pitch, and umpires are used. The normal numbers of fields in the traditional positions are used. One or two players from each team typically have to sit out in any giving inning, but to the extent possible, players are given equal and fair playing time. All players bat in their assigned place in the line up, even during the innings when they do not play a position in the field.

The league dos not keep official standings or statistics. All players are given a participation trophy or medal at the end of the season. The trophies or medals are the same for all players within a given division.

Practices start the first week in May, weather permitting. Games start in late May to early June. The regular season ends the week after July 4th weekend. Fields throughout the Town of Irondequoit, provided by both the school districts and town are used.

Safety

If lightening is seen, or thunder is heard, at any distance from the field, in any direction, the game or practice will be stopped immediately, and the players will be removed from the field. This includes lightning or thunder with a blue sky above the field.

If both coaches are in agreement, play can be suspended for 15 minutes, (with the players in safe areas), and resume if no additional thunder or lightening occurs. If lightening or thunder occurs after play is resumed, the game or practice will be cancelled.
