Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is All Irondequoit Sports (A.I.S.A)? A.I.S.A is a baseball (hardball) league for boys and girls who live in, or attend school in Irondequoit, NY USA. Boys and girls play on the same teams.
  2. When does the season start? Practice begins late April or first week of May, weather depending. League game play begins the last week of May.
  3. When does the season end? The regular season ends the second week of July.
  4. How many practices are there? Practices vary according to age group. Typically, four or five for the younger division and not more than nine for the older divisions.
  5. How many practices or games are there in a week? Typically two practices, or two games, occasionally there are three.
  6. What times are the practices and games? Players should report to the fields no later then 6:00 PM on week nights. The times on Saturday vary, please look on your practice and game schedules for Saturday times.
  7. How many games are there? Games played also varies according to age group. Typically, nine or ten for the younger divisions and eleven to twelve for the older divisions.
  8. What are the days of the week baseball is played? There are always exceptions to the rule, but usually, Instructional Division meets Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings Juniors Division meets Monday and Wednesday evenings, Saturday mornings Minor Division meets any two nights from Tuesday through Friday and Saturday mornings Major Division meets Tuesday and Friday evenings and Saturday mornings
  9. When and Where is the Parents Meeting? This is a very important meeting to start the year off right. Check out the Special Events page for further information. 
  10. What is the Parents Meeting? The Parents Meeting enables you and your child to meet with your coaches, ask questions, obtain practice schedules, obtain league information and obtain a team roster.
  11. When and Where are team pictures taken? The time for your team picture varies according to your division. Your coaches will have the picture forms and specific time for your team.
  12. What equipment does my child need to play baseball? Each child should have proper size, leather baseball glove, too large or too small is a safety hazard, sneakers or cleats and an athletic supporter. Cleats are not necessary for the Instructional and Junior Divisions and are optional for the Minor and Major divisions. Clothing should be loose, but not falling off. Jeans are not a good idea because they are usually hard to run and stretch in.
  13. What equipment does the league provide? A.I.S.A will provide baseball bats, balls, bases, catcher's equipment for older divisions, tees for instructional and junior divisions, coaches, fields and safety kits. The league also provides uniforms and trophies for all participants.
  14. Can my child wear shorts? NO! Due to the safety concerns of your child and insurance restrictions, NO CHILD MAY WEAR SHORTS AT ANY TIME! If a child comes to play in shorts, s/he will not be allowed to participate.
  15. When is Seabreeze Day? Seabreeze day is usually mid-July, from 11:00 AM through 10:00 PM at Seabreeze Fun Park. Your coaches will have cost information for you as soon as we receive the information from Seabreeze. This event is not covered with the cost of Registration.
  16. What is Seabreeze Day? Seabreeze Day can include a full day pass for Rides and Slides at Seabreeze Amusement Park, food and drink in our own pavilion and the end of the day features trophy presentations and raffles for the players. Tickets must be purchased from board members. Tickets will be available to purchase at baseball games in June and July. Tickets can be purchased for all day Ride, Slide and Food or just an entrance pass for the trophy presentation at night. The entrance pass is available only at the gates at Seabreeze, A.I.S.A will not have them to sell. The All Day Pass with Food and Drink will be available from A.I.S.A and sold at your child's games.
  17. How do I sponsor a team? Sponsor applications are available from any Board Member. The cost is $175.00 per team. The name of the sponsor will appear on the backs of most jerseys, banners at Seabreeze Day, featured in the Irondequoit Press as an A.I.S.A thank you and be included on our Web site.
  18. How can I become a Board Member? All volunteers are welcome at any time. Please notify any Board Member and we will get back to you. We meet once a month off season and twice a month, or as needed during the season. Don't be shy, we always need volunteers.
  19. How can I become a coach? During the Registration process, check the box on the Registration form for coach, assistant or team manager. If you sent in the registration and did not check the box, contact your child's coach, if known yet, email or call the league voice mail and leave your request with a telephone number.
  20. Can siblings, cousins, neighbors friends, etc. play on the same team? Yes and No. If you situation involves players in the Instructional or Junior divisions, then yes. If your situation involves players in the Minor or Major divisions, then no. The reason the older leagues are not able to provide the request is due to the age and ability level random draft of players. Siblings will be placed on the same teams in all divisions.
  21. Do we march in a parade? Yes, A.I.S.A marches in the Irondequoit Memorial Day parade. Your coach will have the time and date for this event.
  22. Is there an age group for players? Yes. Ages 5 and 6 are in an Instructional Division Ages 7 and 8 are in the Junior Division Ages 9 and 10 are in the Minor Division Ages 11 and 12 are in the Major Division Girls Softball is ages 9-13. There can be exceptions made.
  23. How do we know if a game has been canceled? Unless your coach notifies you by telephone, proceed to the playing field.
  24. When do we get our League Game schedules? Game schedules are made available the last week of practice.
  25. Do we get uniforms? Yes, every player who participates gets an A.I.S.A baseball uniform.
  26. Do All Players Receive a Trophy? YES! All players who participate will receive a trophy.
